CLIP Review: A Seed is Sleepy
Author: Diana Hutts Aston
Illustrator: Sylvia Long
We couldn't resist sharing one more garden-themed book, because this one is absolutely beautiful. Mary Kline will be reviewing another book from this fabulous author/illustrator team this month, so I thought I'd add A Seed is Sleepy to our list of favorite books on plants and gardens.
From Booklist: "Long's masterful watercolors dominate each spread, which includes text on two levels. Short poetic phrases in large print, aimed at younger children, give seeds accessible, anthropomorphic qualities: "A seed is sleepy"; "A seed is adventurous." Paragraphs in smaller print, which tackle science concepts and expand on the phrases, are geared to older readers."
This is a book that a parent & child can share together in a rocking chair or a teacher can share with her classroom. Also, the beauty of the illustrations make them worthy to be framed and hung!
